HUTT AND PETONE NEWS. (From Our Sreclal Correspondent.)
Tho annual competition for tho "Baldwin" Cup for members of tho Hutt Valley i'iro Brigades lakes place on Saturday afternoon on tho Hutt Eccrealiion Ground. Lower Hutt have entered three teams, Potoue town two, Gear Company two, and Kailway Workshops one. In the closed events (two men coupling and ono man "wet") Hutt havo entered six teams for each event. Messrs. 11. Findlay, S. Newland, and J. Bo.wles have announced their intention of contesting tho Petone Borough Council election. Mr. \V. Wakelin,' of tho grocery department of Messrs. Webley and Co., Petone, has accepted an appointment in the Labour Department at Cliristchurch. Mr. Wakelin is a No-Licenso man, and has been secretary of tho Hutt League for some years. A meeting is to bo held at Petone 011 Thursday for the_ purpose of endeavouring to form a Wednesday Club in connection with tho Petone Kugby Football Club. Plans of Ihe sewerage scheme aro almost complete, and. it is cxpccted lliat the work will bo commenced in about a moillh from now.
