Nicholas, King of' Montenegro, has (according ■to "T.P.'s Weekly"), written a play,.called "The Empress of the Balkans," soon to be produced. Here is a speech of Daniza to her soldier lover, who has been parleying with the enemy: — • What hinds ino' to_ my • country; dost thou ask? Jts dear tradition and the olden sagas, The breath of freedom , and the bonds ' of blood, . ." The days of dear content and dearer sorrow. • , • . What binds me? Our .blue skies and 'hills That it is very joy to see abovo. Hero is our life-clsowhero is only night, ' Whero there's no homely sun to-warm, our hearts. What binds ino to my country, dost thou ask? , The memory of that day when plighting troth You gave mo fragraut blooms and filled ray soul With overplus of love and holy dream Of theo and of thy honour.
