COUNTRY COMPANIES' EfiCOBD. During a recent inspection tour by the General Officer' Commanding the New Zealand. Forces (Major-General Godley) in the country districts, the parade attendance l'ccord of the Rangiwnhia and Oliingaiti sections particularly attracted his attention. The total strength of the Rangiwahia section'is 24.-, Of these, 16 liuls have never missed a parade; three lads missed one parade (each, with leave); one lad misted two parades, being sick; two lads, missed one parade, owing to distance and bad weather; one lad missed three parades, being sick; one lad missed two parades, without leave, probably owing to distance. "It was reported in the district," says General Godloy, "that the lads had subscribed funds to purchase a horse for a less fortunately-situated lad, in order that lie might attend, parades, and thus keep up the record of the section. I inquired fully into this.jnattcr, and find that such is correct. Very many of Mio lads conic long distances to parade, varying to as much as 16 miles." In the Oliingaiti section the total strength is 21. Sixteen of these have never missed a parade. Of the remainder, three lads missed n parade each, being sick; one lad missed two parades (sick); and one lad missed one parade, without leave (cause not known). Here again many of the lads come long distances to drill.
