NATIONALISATION.

LABOUR PROPOSALS.

DISCOURAGED BY MR. ASQUITH.

By Tfllfleraph—Preis Aasoclation-Oojiyrlsht "" (Eec. March 18, 10.30 p.m.) London, MarcVlß. The Prime Minister, Mr. Asqnith, in replying to a,deputation from the Trade Union Congress, said he would considerably demur at the proposal to nationalise tho mines. The evidence showed, that nationalisation in Prussia had proved unsatisfactory. The practicability of the nationalisation of the railways 'in England has also, not: been proved. It would immediately be followed by a large demand from traders for better rates and from tho workers for better wages and fewer hours, thus absorbing tho expected profits. Tho rccent tremendous strain in Parliament accounted for the Government marking, time with regard to social - reform. .
