U hen'he was m Auckland, Captain Hooper, the commander of the Amokura, ?!£ V-, , re Portcr something of tho difficulties which he met with in. the charge of so. many, boys. : There were, many outside influences at work, lie said;' which ho had always to be on tho alert to combat. Speaking of the bo.ys generally, he said that lie felt that, they were a ciedit to the ship, though, he added there were always one or two that were somewhat difficult to manage. Captain R. M. Clilfe, ,teacher of navigation in Auckland, has had a good deal to ao with lads who have received early training on tho Amokura. Ho states that they aro invariably riiannerly, and have a knowledge of seamanship and discipline that is not usual among coloniallytrained seamen. "Although the establishment of the Amokura may have taken a little business out of my hands," the captain remarked,' "I still : aver that it affords a splendid training 1 ground • for New Zealand boys who want to go to sea.",
