Beaven) adds;— The ladies who attended the gala at Lyall Bay on Saturday afternoon deserve credit for making the gathering such a financial success. Until eleven o'clock thoso in charge wera' in a quandary, as to whe-_ tiier to hold the carnival or postpone it, but when tho word went out that "all was well," thoso at the head of the stalls quickly gathered their various assistants together, and worked throughout .the afternoon, filially returning into town at 8.30 p.m.' Those . who deserve special mention for their untiring efforts to make the afternon a.success were:—Mesdames 'J. 1\ Luke (loan of crockery), A. Levy-/(in charge of tea-room), It. (i. Grange, J. F. Atkins, H. J. Levy, and 11. C. ,\V. Blick (in charge of sweets, drinks, and ;fruit stall), D. K. Blair, w. E. L. Gibbes, A. A. N. Somerville. The.:-sheep-guessing competition was won by Mr. E. Ryan, 223 Hanson Street, who guessed the correct' weight, 1481b. Mrs. E. Attmbre and Mrs; A. E. Ivernot tied for tho cake competition, both ladies guessing 6lb. 81oz., the correct weight being 61b. B|oz. i , ,
