PRAYER AND HEALING.

STATEMENT OF THE BISHOP OF LONDON. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright' London, March IG. The Bishop of London (Dr. WinningtonIngram) states that he visited, at her request, at Knightsbridge, a girl, aged 15, who was Taving arid shrieking and suffering from prolonged nervous breakdown. He anointed lier forehead with oil and said several prayers. The girl at once slept soundly, and is now recovering. The advocates of spiritual healing claim that religion has a healing power over the body; that tho Gospels are full of -healing works; thai: the Apostles and others healed the sick; and that unction was, used in the early church for healing purposes. The writer of an article on tho subject in "Mowbray's Annual" states: — "The unction of the sick, though not tho only means emnloyed by the Church to bring spiritual influence to bear upon the body, is a most venerable and a Scriptural means; and therefore churchmen—while regretting that tlie Lambeth Conferenco of 1008 decided (it is said only by n very small majority) not to draw up or formally to authorise a service of unction— cannot but rejoice that tho conference left the clergy free to anoint the sick in the Name of tho Lord. The laying on of hands may also bo used, as well as prayer; and underlying all is the strengthening of faith and a cheerful trust in God."
