The death of the Rev. Dr. .1. R. Cairns, senior'.minister at St. Andrew's Kirk, Sturfc Street, Melbourne, is announced in the Melbourne "Age." The deceased minister, who was 67 years of age, retired some years ago from the active work of the ministry. On February 28, while at 'tea with Mrs. Cairns, he had a. paralytic seizure, and died without regaining consciousness. Dr. Cairns, who was a native of County Down, Ireland, was well-known throughout Australasia and New Zealand. He arrived in Now Zealand in 1879, and filled the position of Moderntor of the Presbyterian General Assembly in New Zealand. He filled several high offices in itlio Church in Victoria, includin» that of Moderator of tho General Assembly. Dr. Cairns, who was an lionourman and gold medallist of the Queen's University, Ireland, was a prominent worker in connection with religious and charitable and other movements at Baltara't. He was connected with one of tho oldest families in Ireland, a member of which was tho late Earl Cairns.
