ALLEGED BIGAMY.

At the Police Court Harry Cord, n hotel porter residing at Hamilton was charged with having at Auckland, in August last, committed bigamy by going through th'e form of marringo with Kathleen Kelly, being already married. Evidence was given to the effect that tho accused-was married at St, Paul's Church, Canterbury, on February 12, 1908, to Beatrice Newton, who was present m Court. He subsequently went Id Newcastle, and returned eight' months later. When tlieir child was born, lie agaiu left New Zealand. He had written to his wife, and sent her money, but she did not seo him again till February last, in Hamilton. The accused, in a statement produced by the police, did not deny the allegations, but staled that there wcro peculiar circumstances connected with his lirst marriage. He reserved his defence, and was committed to trial, bail being alinwml on Ilia own Towimisfltieo of *£200, with two sureties of i! 100 oack,
