A ballot was held at the Napier Lands Office to-day when 21 sections in the Waihau Settlement, originally knovm as the Waihau, Ngaroto, and • Peka Peka Estates, were offered for selection. Eightyseven applicants went to the ballot for eleven of the sections, the remaining sections not attracting any attention so far es the ballot was , concerned.' Three of the remaining ten sections were subsequently selected without ballot, leaving 6even available for application. The ballot resulted as follows (the number of applicants for each.section being shown in parentheses) Section 1, Block X, 425 acres, J. L. Scott, Gisborne (2); Section 2, Block X, 388 acres, P. A.' A. Coclcburn, Gisborne (13); Section 4, Block X, 747 aores, Daniel Butler, Napier (2); Section 5, Block XI, 729 acres. H. A. Trent, Auckland (8); Section 6, Block XI, 773 acres, Wm. Day, Rakauroa (5); Section 7, Blook XI, 1023 acres, Patrick Butler,' Napier (2);' Section 8. Block XI, 778 acres, Michael Horgan, Gisborne (4); Section 9, Block XI, 1166 acres. H, H. Hartree, Ngaroto „ (2); Section 1, Block XXI, .670 acres, G. H. Halliwell, Greenmeadows (9); Section 2, Block XII, 760 acres, Madeline Smith, Tolcomaru Bay (SO); Section 3, Block XVI, 531 acres. H. C. Maulder, Otane (10). The following seotions were subsequently selected i without ballot Section 3, Block 10, 708 acres, William John Cully, Napier; Section 2, Block 15. 1078 acres, T. W. C.. Hartree, Ngaroto; Section 3, Block 15, 1098 acres, Henry Hartree, Ngaroto. No applications were received for Sections 1. 2, 3, and 4, Block XI; Section 1, Block XV.'; and Sections 1 and 2, Block XVI. The sections disposed of yesterday will brincr in a half-yearly Tental amounting to JC1212.
