WANGANUI JOTTINGS.
'' ' - (By Tde^raph.—Speoial Correspondent.) Wanganui, March 14. The Telegraph Department has agreed to construct the Wanganui-Pipiriki telephone line at a cost of about ,£I2OO, conditional on a guarantee being given for tho annual payment to tho Department of .£3O per year,-or a lump sunr of: £120. It is estimated that there will be an annual loss on the lino .for the first' few years of about"io9o} but'it will bo of immense benefit to all concerned, and yiero is littlo doubt of the guarantee.- being forthcoming.. / Preparations are being actively- made for the camp of Methodist Bible classes to l>e held hero at Easter, when it -is expected that about 500 delegates will be present from all parts of the Dominion. The Chamber of Commoreo dccided to take-no action regarding the representation of Wanganui at tho Auckland--Ex-hibition. The matter, is regaled' with so much apathy generally that it is hardly likely that anyone else will'take it up. So tho Wanganui Court will.probably be. conspicuous'by its absence. Spoken to by a pressman to-day regarding the allegations by certain Opposition journals that members of tho police force were greatly, dissatisfied with tho new regulations' governing promotion, several local officers said that as far as they knew .no such feeling existed, and that the new conditions were practically inert ly the old new guise.
