A. &. P. SHOW MATTERS.
' WINTER GATHERING INAUGURATED. v The annual • gathering of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association is,one of the events'.of the year in Gisbome. The society has been in existence !for thirty-three years, and the show is held on. the picturesque Gisborno Park Racecourse—an ideal ground for such , a gathering. Last year the entries totalled
14G7, horses being, the strongest feature. All tlio 'field, events at the show are keenly contested each year, and at the last show the entries for the jumping and other competitions ranged' from thirty to fifty-three.. Of recent years the .progress mads with the spring show lias been so encouraging that it has been decided to inaugurate a winter show also. One of the chief difficulties to bo overcome in connection with the latter is.the, fact, that very little root cropping is nt present done in the district. With the rapid-settle-ment which is •liow'goini; on, and with farming on 'a more extensive scale as the inevitable result, it is anticipated that this deficiency will be supplied in the near future. The committee has decided that the time is opportune for commencing tlie second show, and the members 6f the association generally have taken up the matter witji an enthusiasm which augurs well for its success. Mr.G. Witters is the president of the association, and Jlr. H. E. Dodd secretary.
