A comparative statement has been pro. pared which shows-the amounts received by the' Gisborno Harbour Bbord for wharfages,- port charges, pilotage, etc., during tho years 1011 and 1912. Tho receipts for the latter period under, these, headings.totalled £25,072 lis. 9d., an increase of .£3138 lis. Id., as compared with tho 'previous' year." Tho principal item in the statement is wharfages ,£I!J,7GO Ss. 2d., and of this large amount only 12s. 9d.. was outstanding ajb" tlio;cnd of tho year.
Following is' an extract taken from tho Inst annual report Of the Mayor of Giisborno (Mr. W. .Pcttio)".ln. 188G tho population of .Gisborne was-set down at 2210. . Daring' t tho'ensuing ten years tho town arid suburbs were' amalgamated, and tho enlarged area,-according to'tlio 189G census, contained a-population of 3828. Ten years later it had risen to 5687, and. according lo tho census of 1911, tho population was 8198. To-day it would bo safe to snv it has increased to over nine thousand. •
