» NAPIER PARK RACES. FIRST DAY. GREAT PERFORMANCE BY BOBRIKOFF. CHEDDAR WINS THE CUP. /' (By Telejrapl).—Press Association.! Napier, March 13. Tho Autumn meeting of the Napier Park Racing Club was commenced at Greenmeadows to-day in the presence of a very largo attendance of the public. Tht' rain of the previous two nights had freshened things up considerably alter the dry spell, and tho course was in splendid order, somo fairly fast times being recorded. • Tho racing on the whole was oxcellent. Scra\chings were conspicuous by their scarcity, and some of tho finibhes were exceptionally good. In tho Sapling Slakes Uertrada just beat Soltuno, . l.ut owing to the jockey failing to in with tho breastplate tho filly was disqualified, and tho race awarded to Soltau.o, In the meantime, however, by somo unexplained error, the totalisator had paid out on many Bcrtrada tickets, • and it is said that the club will lose two or three hundred pounds thereby. Tho last raco of the'day was the most sensa- .' tional. BobrikolF, who was second favourite, was toiling along in tho rear ' for tho greater part of tho journey, and when the turn into the .straight, was reached, lie must' have been between 70 and 80 yards away from the leaders. Ho appeared to bo hopelessly out of the race, but simply electrified tho spectators by putting in a wonderful run, overhaul- , ing the, other horses one by one-and passing them as if they were standing 'still. The black chaliipion just managed to get up and defeat tlio speedy Blue Lake by the narrowest of margins. .TIIO win . was greeted with cheers, and Mr. Lowry must indeed have felt pleased with the reception his horse got on returning to weigh in. The amount put through the totalisator for the day was. .£12,451, as against £12,231 for tho o'pening day of the .Autumn meeting last year. • Tlio fol- ,- lowing are the results:— . (By Telegraph.—Special Corrcepondent.) Nelson, March 13.! ■ The Nelson meeting was concluded to- , day iu ' glorious weather, and before a large crowd. The racing was tho best seen on the Richmond course for many .- years,' a'lld sovcral of the finishes wero . close and exciting. The big handicap was a prand'Lontest between the two topiveights, and had not Ceylon been stopped by Astonishment at the bottom of the straight, it looked as if she would again have accounted for Sinapis. During the meeting tho crack .-Auckland jockcy (13. Deeley) rodo seven winners, which is one. lessl than last year. Mr. R. E. Harris's "Starting left little-to bo desired. Tho stipendiary steward (Mr. R. O. Duncan) was very. ..active, but beyond the racing of 'Princess Flo he found no 'cause for complaint. Deeley, on Raupara, gained rather, a lucky decision iii tho Electric Hack. The public discussed the matter all day. Many held that .tho verdict was correct; others voted for Merry Guy, and these, wero in thd majority, while a good crowd proclaimed the names of Panthea and Cadonia, lvho was placed fourth-. The win-ner-was favourito on the machine, aud jumped off Well, but Merry Guy soon headed him, only in turn' to give way ; to Royal Sleeves, who led till well down the running. One. hundred yards off the post the field buiiched, and after a most exciting finish Merry Guy, Raupara, Panthea, aftd ' Cadonia 'passed the post iu a line, while Royal Sleeves amMYailand we're close up. Only tho'judge could say which horse had won, and lie gave ' his : decision -as-nbove. - . The two -mi les and a' lialf trot was a good ' thing for Merlin, who was on the limit, and left the mark smarllv' to-day, while yeaterdtfy he broka up badly'after settling down. The cream gelding never let tho others up, and won b^v-ten lengths, with the favourite, Ayah.-in second place. > The big handicap provided an interesting- race. Sinapis. was again a good favourito, and the going to-day suited her, much better.- Sho was u trifle sore, but soon threw it off. and at the six furlongs "sho ran into second .place with Ceyion, who was anchored by her big weight, tailed oil. At the half-mile WilcT Bird was. just clear of Sinnpis aud. Ceylon. The favourite next went to the front, but Royal Marine could not, go with her ' in the straight. Both Ceylon and Astonishment came with a run, but the latter could not sustain her effort. Ceylon, however, finished, with a great rattle, and | the favourito had, to be ridden very hard to hold, n slight advantage as th«y. raced past 'the post. Thoiigli defeated Ceylon put up a. very ■ meritorious performance, and it was no disgrace lo fail when conteding a brilliant mare like Sinapis 21b. ' wheii the conditions were all in favour'of the, latter. • Achilledes was the maohino tip for the Stoke Hack Handicap, with Trilby as second choice. The former jumped off in front, nnd, making every post a .winning one, lie 'landed tho stake comfortably by a good length. Panthea was second, well clear df Raupara, with Trilby, who stopped badly, in fourth place. . ' The whole of the sixteen acceptors in the Second Trot went to the post. Ayah finished up favourite on the_ machine, and after a'good raco ho won nicely, and this after receiving, a lot of attention from the driver of the second'horse. Myrette was well bock in third position. Irish Gift was tho best backed of the five runners in thu Waimea Handicap, and in Deelev's hands he won nicely. Jforevkoff.kept'him at it for n little over half a mile, when the We?t Coast hor?e name awav aud was never seriously chal'snjed ain. Mount Victoria ajain ran.

badly, and was ridden hard to get third j Princess Flo, who was unsighted yesterday, received much better support in the Welter to-day, but the general public pinned its faith to Deeley and Commotion. After a really good start Princess .Flo soun took charge, but the favourite was always in her way. In the straight tho pair had a battle roval, and passed tho post locked together. Tho judge's verdict was for tho favourite. After the race tho stewards inquired into the form of Princess Flo, but 110 action was taken. The concluding event went to Waipunui, who was offered for sale on the courso earlv in the day, but found 110 buyers. He finished with the saddle over his hindquarters, and won by a length from Irish Gift. SOUTHLAND RACING CLUB'S ' MEETING. SECOND DAY.' GAPON WINS' THE AWARUA ■ HANISttVP.
