It is supposed that he left Picton in a' small boat for Anikawa. Regarding the body of the niiddle-nged .man found floating in .the Manawatu River, there was no .evidence at the inquest to-day to indicate who'the deceased was or where he liaiied from. The evidence rather pointed to the fact that he was of gentle'-birth. The tody had apparently beeii in the water a month or more, and may? have come from far-up the river. SERIOUS MOTOR-CAR 'MISHAP, . New Plymouth, March 13. By a motor-car accident to-day a wellAUdwu resident jiamed Mr. Norjnan Bew ; ley sustained serious-, injuries, liis leg having to be subsequently amputated above the knee. He iies in a critical condition at the hospital. The accident-was tho result of a pin'dropping, out of the steering gear and tho car colliding with a telegraph posi. ' • James Moriarty' a tram conductor, residing in Riddiford Street, fell from the-foot-board of a Wallace Street car in Hopper Street yesterday morning. Ho was wounded and bruised about the head. Dr. Platts Mills attended him 'and had him removed t,o the hospital. Percy Calcinai* who met with an acci-* dent lost Friday, while driving one of Wardell and Company's carts, which, striking tho kerb, capsized, died at noon yesterday. Dr. Gilmer attended him at the hospital. He was unconscious until his death. Deceased was a son of\Mr. John Calcinai, of Rolleston Street, and was for inany years Employed by E. W. Mills and Co. An inquest will be held to-day.
