AN OBSTREPEROUS LUNATIC.: .. The occupants of the People's Palace, in Cuba Street, were rudely awakened from their slumbers about 1 o'clock this morning by'the loud shrieks of one of tho boarders. All tho attempts of tho manager to pacify him were in vnin, and the place was in such a state of uproar that the polite had to:be telephoned for. The man, who, it is understood, is oitt .on. y ■ probation 'from the Mental. Hospital at' Porirua, before tho arrival of the detach, ment from Mount Cook Station, in the meantime had locked himself, in. his room and made the night hideous for all within hearing by his unceasing and tuneless melody. By . the time the police arrived lie had quioteiiflddown somewhat, butummediately' tho" constables' forced open his door tho sight of the uniforms so infuriated' Him. imdigSvo liiin strength to such purpose, that, he almost felled one of the constables with a hefty blow in •> tho chest. Superior force of, numbers, however, told, and ho was safely secured. His num. : ber on tho hotel board list was thankfully marked off "vacant," by the manager as . • the police marched tho iuan away from , the premises wjthout any undue lamentations' from liis erstwhile fellow-lodgers. ; Their quarry safely in hand, the police 'officers tried to secure a "taxi" to take i him to Lambton . Police station, but as is ever tho case tho last one had just left the stand. ' ■
