A brilliant electrical disturbance was witnessed last night, followed by steady rain—the first for several months. Tho downpour is of great raluo to the district. Gisborno, March 13. The Gisbornc-Napier ferry service, successfully performed by tho Tokapuna since the beginning of December, ?s to bo extended till the end of April. Tho Minister for Public Works proceeded to Motu to-day to inspect tho northern railway. To-morrow he visits the southern section of tho liue. Auckland, March 13. Advico has been received by mail by Mr. T. P. Gilfodder, who is a Fallow of the' Geographical Society of America, that a party of American scientists is to visit Auckland during tho exhibition. ' In a letter from the headquarters of tho society, the wish is expressed that the visitors may meet as many of tlicir New Zealand confreres as possible. Mr. Gilfodder hoj)c.s scientists from other parts of the Dominion who will 1)0 in Auckland at tho time of the exhibition will oommunicato with him with a view to meeting tho overseas visitors. Auckland, March 12. Annie I'vavin, a single woman, recently from Gisborne, has been admitted to the hospital suffering from.an overdose of veronal. 1
