SUICIDES AND PUBLICITY.
DISCUSSION IN MELBOURNE. By Telosraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, Marcli 13. At inquests on two cases of suicide by , taking lysol, a doctor gave the opinion 1 that the name of the poison in such cases should not be published., Another doctor said that no reports should be published of inquests on suicides. * %
The Coroner (Dr. Cole), in summing up said: "There are arguments' for and against publication. People suicidally'inclined arp undoubtedly likely to be attracted to a particular means of committing suicido by seeing cases described in the press, but if they have made up their minds to commit suicido it will bo very difficult to stop them. The question is' whether the harm of non-publication would not counterbalance tho harm caused by publication. If all poisons sold were diluted they could 1 still bo used for medical purposes. This specially applied to lysol."
