CITIZENS' CARNIVAL.
CENTRAL RECEPTION BUREAU. Tho general committee of ihe Citizens' Carnival, to be held at. Easter, is apparently leaving no stone umtumed to. make .Iho gala a success. Tho committee is at present advertising ths carnival in the country Dress, aud is hoping, that this 'will be the means of inducing many to visit Wellington during the great fun season. For the purpose i'f seeing that these twoplc are well looked after, a Reception Committee has been set up, with Mr. H. F. Allen as secretary. Tn order io gee into touch with all visitors, tliev are being requested to register at the Central Reception Bureau (at Messrs. Allen and Sou's office, in Customhouse Ounv), where a register of names ami addresses of visitors will be kept. By lhat means people who register will be inviled io attend excursions, etc.,'which are being el-ranged for 'llieir entertainment. .The first anplieant for registration is a ro«i(lent of" Mangatainoka, from whom Mr. Allen heard yesterday. ALLOCATION OF FUNDS.
Arrangements for the aquatic festival, til take place at Lyall Bay on Saturday afternoon next, are Hearing completion, ami the programme, thanks to the united effort of the whole of the swimming interests in the city, "bids fair to eclipse any similar function held in this Dominion. At the executive meeting held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening there was considerable discussion 011 two proposals submitted with regard to the setting-up of a committee to deal with the matter of expending the expected profit, ,'fho first was a motion by the Mayor to the effect that t.he committee should consist of three members of the Citizens' Committee, three members of tlie■ council, with his Worship the Mayor as chairman. The following amendment, proposed by Mr. C. G. Wilson, was carried by a majority:— "The funds raised by the Citizens' lvaster Carnival Committee shall bo paid to'the City Council to be placed to the credit of a special account and the expenditure thereof controlled by a committee consisting of three members of the council, viz.. his Worship the Mayor, the chairman of the Reserve Committee and one other councillor; also six citizens other than councillors to be chosen by this executive of whom four shall be gentlemen and two ladies. "The council to bo requested to treat this money as a deposit and to allow interest thereon at the' rate paid to depositors as a credit balance." Nominations were received afler the foregoing Was carried for representation of tho citizens, the following being nominated:— Mesdames Firth, Luke. v Marsh Messrs.' J. F. Atkins. J. P. Firth, A.' Mavryatt. C. R. Smith, L. T. Watkins! C. G. Wilson. A ballot will take place at the next meeting of Mm executive which wiill be held 011 Tuesday evening. Athletes are notified that tlio entries for tho electric light sports will close at (i p.m. on Friday evening, either with Messrs. R. TI. Scott and Co., or Messrs. Ivitto and Sons.
