He joins tho Empire Trade Commission and proceeds to Australia to discuss with the Primo Minister of tho Commonwealth reciprocity between Canada and Australia.- Ho said that ho could not say what the basis of these negotiations would be; ho was just going to talk tilings over with Mr. Fisher. Mr. Foster, questioned as to the probable effect of reciprocity between CaViada and Australia upon tho existing redprowil conditions as between New Zealand and Canada, said it was difficult to say. There was room for both countries. Tho slight advantago of position lay with. New Zealand. JIo believed trade with the Eastern ports of Canada could bo worked up and would result satisfactorily to this end. Asked as. to the rumour of possible amalgamation of the C.P.R. and the Union btoam Ship Company, Mr. Foster said lie had heard nothing about it. A freight lino was needed between the Pacific slope and New Zealand and Australia.
