KARORI AFFAIRS.
i ' —0 — - TEAMWAY - MATTERS. The- usual meeting of the Karori Bin-ough Council was held last ovemng. Tho following were present: The Mayor (Mr. C. Ca'thie), Councillors Hildreth, Bradnock, Hamilton, Nimino, Burns, Anderson, Standen,' and Horn. A letter on the subject of the street lnmps' trouble was received from the City Council, which pointed out that the whole trouble had arisen out. of n statement 1 by a borough councillor lo the effect that the council could at any time discontinue to use the lights, which statement, said the letter, was in the nature 6f a threat. The City Council asked tho council to make an agreement. Iu moving that the letter be received, his Worship the Mayor said that the letter simply meant that the City Council wore determined not to agree to the contract. The contract had been perfectly satisfactory to Karori, but they could not bind future councils by entering into a different agreement.
Councillor Nimmo thought they should open up negotiations with the Gas Company and see if they could got bolter terms from them in regard to tho two lipli'tS~that were wanted. The Mayor said that the committee would be open to receive any such negotiations.
lieferring to a letter, from the council asking tlia't the 7.4 a.m. car from Knrori run via Aitken Street, the Tramway Board wrote notifying that the alteration would be -inade.
The secretary of the Northland Municipal Electors' Association-wrote to the council as follows:—"In connection' with t.lio late depuWion from this association to your council re tramway matters, I have to inform you that we h-aye obtainedjegal advice on 'tho points in 'question,. and, acting on such, we now desire to make the following rcouests:—
1. Threepenny through Sunday fare: We request that the present practice of issuing a through ticket to cemetery passengers (i.e.. those travelling over ' the first, two sections only), and allocating half of the revenue so earned to tho extension, he discontinued. Wo desire Uii't a distinctive ticket be issued to alt Botanical Gardens-Cemetery passengers, .and (lie whole of the receipts v from the sale of such tickets allocated to this portion of the line.. "While recognising 'tint your council has tho sole ri<?ht to fix the fares to be charged over this line, we, as ratepayers, desire Ho protest against the increased Sunday fares as an imposition on the travelling public.
L\ (o) Allocation of 'tramway profits to interest and sinking fund: We request that the whole of the accumulated profits un to March 31. IHI2, for tho Botanical Gardens-Johnston Street line be transferred Iq sinking funds for l"aus Xos. t and o. ]-Vom your council'* balancesheets issued since the inception .of the tramwav service, we gather that the accumulated profits on the soritions under discussion amount !o .EIIIH I">s. 10d.. and we now request that this money l;e transferred as stated above. 2. (b) \\c request tlia't. in future all nrofits from tramways from the Batanical Gardens to .Tohnston Street bo similarly transferred each year, and only so much of the special rate be collected as is necessary Ito supplement tramway earnings, in order to nrovide the full amount of interest and sinking fund, in accordance with Section 19, Local Bodies' Loans Act, ions.

Tt wns decided proceedings be taken fop the recovery of out'llanding rates. The amount of ihe outstanding rates is about .£7OO.
