A GREAT HOLSTEIN DEAD.
PONTIAC .KORNDYKE. Practically every Holstein breeder, and most pedigreo cattle breeders,' have read or heard of Pontiac Korndyke, probably the greatest Holstein-Friesian sire of tho day, and "will regret to liear that news received from New York announces his death. . Tho deceased bull was a son of Hello Ivorndyko (25.77 pounds butter seven days), tlie foundation cow of the Korndyke family, which is a much-sought-after strain of the present day. Pontiac Korndyke was sired by Manor Josephine Dclvol, who was from the world's champion two-year-old Agnes DeKol's Ellen, and by a son of Mechthilde's Sir Henry of Jlaplewood and the famous prize-winning cow Empress Josephine 3rd. (31.02 pounds butter seven days unofficial). Thus, Manor Josephine DeKol was strong in tho blood of 'Mechthilde's Pieterje 2nd and Empress Josephine 3rd, three of the greatest of t'ho early, foundation' cows. Pontiac Konidyko was born at Laconn, N.Y., 011 the farm of Henry Stevens and Sons, and was sold as a calf to the Eastern Michigan Asylum. Here he stood in scrvieo for some years, being purchased b.v Mr. .E. JEI. Dollar, Heuveli'on, N.Y. Tlie daughters of Pontiac Korndyke have made a showing which placed him in. a class.by himself: Seventy-seven made •A.K.O. The first two-year-old to-produce 1000 pounds of butter in' a year is one of his daughters, and another two-year-old daughter, now in test, bills fair to surpass the 1000-pound mark. Not far below King of the Pon•liacs is Pontiac Aaggie who has .two four-year-old daughters with records over 32 .pounds and a wonderful list of two and three-year-olds.
