AUTHOR OF. In preparing the'dictionary l)r. ilnlian made a large collection of books and MSS„ and these he presented to the library at the Church House, Westminster, which in 'itself constitutes inn important hymnological department. - Whilst the dictionary was Dr. Julians •greatest'work, hp wrote many other books,concerning hymns, his earliest having been published in 1874. One of his last was his monograph on ''Nearer, My God to Thee," containing some valuable notes oil that famous hymn. Dr. Julian, who held the Canonry of Fciitoii in York Minster since 1901, was given an honorary M.A. degree by Durham University in 1887. Archbishop Bensou bestowed the Lambeth D.D. degree ill 189J,' and the same year the Harvard University, Washington, gave . him • his LL.D. • In each case the honour came as a tribute to'' his special field of work.
