CRICKET. WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. , EXECUTIVE MEETS. At .lust night's meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association, Mr. 31. F, J.uekie presided, aud there were also present: Messrs. M. A letter from the' Auckland Association confirmed a suggestion by Wellington tliat auiiiial matches should be played between the provinces, and that the visiting team should receive :J0 per cent, of tho net profits,' irrespective of whether the match were for the shield or not. The ldtter stated that the Auckland Association could not fix a date until tiiev knew whether or not Canterbury could play them at Easter.—lt was decided to leply to the effect that the Wellington Association would be suited by a match in Wellington at "Ghristmus, and to point out that tho annual match between Utago ami Canterbury took place annually at Christmas, and the annual match between Wellington and Canterbury at tho New Year.
Regarding, a proposed visit to Napier! the Hawke's Bay Association wrote stating'that the Auckland match had been definitely fixed for Easter. It was requested that the Wellington Association should make special endeavour to pay a visit, to Napier this season, as the Hav,-ice's Bay Association was anxious to maintain the annual fixture.—On the motion of Mr. Crombie, it was decided to telegraph the Hawke's Day authorities that an effort would le made to send a team ,to Napier •on March 20. Failing this, the Wellington Association will send a team to \Napier, next year, irrespective of whether the Hawke's Bay team visits Wellington or, not. ■ Wickets on the Basin Reserve were granted for next Saturday for matches between Masterton School representatives and the Island Bay School represontaHires. / Applications for wickets on Good ■ Friday were granted to the Victoria College. Club and to the Post and Telegraph Sports Club, subject to the approval of the City Council. It ivas mentioned that there was a possibility of the council refusing to allot wickets on either Good Friday, or Easter Saturday. '.Mr. Willis raised an objection about tits manner in which the previous week's meeting had been postponed. After some discussion and explanations, Mr. Fanning moved: "That this committee regrets that tho chairman postponed the last meeting "without consulting members." This was seconded by Mr. Willis. ■ Messrs. Crombie ami Midlane both stated that they had been inconvenienced by the postponement, but did. not consider the motion was called for, and would oppose it. Mr. Bay, having no vote to exercise, the voting ivas even, and'the chairman, on being pressed by Mr. Fanning for a ruling, declared tho motion lost on the casting vote of the chair. The meeting then' carried a motion by Mr. Willis that in the case of future members should be con~ suited. > SENIOR FIXTURES. , Fixtures for. the remainder of the season were drawn as follow: — A . '' CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA. Entries have now closed for tho New Zealand Championship Rowing Regatta, which will be held m Wellington Harbour. on Easter Saturday. Of late years tho Wellington regatta has been voted the best event of the season by competing oarsmen and the public alike, and on this 'occasion it is likely to prove one of the cilicf attractions of Carnival Week. Crews are-coming frdin Auckland, AVanganui, Blenheim, \Vairau, Picton, Wcstport, Cliristchurch, Akuroa, and Duriediu, and .each of the three local clubs will be represented by a strong contingent. The following entries have been received, for the championship events;—. Champion Fours (two miles).—Wanganui Union, Blenheim, Wellington, Christchurch Union, Star, and Kawatiri. Champion Pairs (one mile and a half).— Stir, Akaroa, Wellington, and Wangauui "Union. t Champion Sculls (one,mile and a half). -Wangauui Union, 'Sumner, St. George's, Waitemata, Picton, Wangantii (two entries), Kawatiri, and Otago. Champion Double Sculls (one mile and a half).—Wanganni, Wang.anui Union, Wellington, Akaroa, Sumner, St. Georgo'f, and Star. For the remaining events splendid entijes have been received. If the weather is southerly, the races ■ will be rowed across Oriental Bay, the finishing-point being between Taranaki Stj'eet Wharf and the Queen's Wharf; if -northerly, tho'events will be decided over the fine course between Ngahauranga and the Korokoro. In either case steamers available t<? the public will follow the races. A strong committee of enthusiastic workers has all arrangements well in hand, and given fine weather a most successful regatta is assured.
'VARSITY TOURNAMENT.
FINAL ARRANGEMENTS. Complete arrangements as to the programme tor the twelfth annual New Zealand University tournament, have now been made, and invitutions are being issued for the reception of the visiting students, which lakes place in (he Concert Chamber of (lie Town Hall at 9.13 a.m. on Saturday, -Mal'ch 22. On Friday, March 21, ami Saturday, .March 22, a cricket match\will take place between Victoria and Otagft Colleges. At 10 a.m. on Saturday, tho Lawn Tenuis Championships will commence at the Wellington Club courts in Palmer Street (olf Upper Willis Street). In the evolving, at. the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, a debating contest will be held. For this function, the judges will be his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman, Sir .John I'iudiay, J\and the Very Kev. Dr. Kennedy (rector of St. Patrick's College). On Sunday evening. March 2:5, a special service will be held at SI. .lohn's Church, Willis Street. On Monday, March 21, an athletic sports meeting will be hold, and in :li*e evening the Cniversily Hal! will bo hold in "I lie Town Hall. Tlie linals of tlie Lawn Tcmis Cham-
pionships will take place at !U0 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, and in the evening a moonlight Harbour excursion will be held, while at 8 o'clock, in the Town Hall, a boxing contest between Olago v. Victoria College will commcnce.
ASSOCIATION.
' ISLAND BAY CLUB. The annual meeting of tlic Island Bay Association Football Club was held last evening, Mr. C. K. Diek presiding. The election of officers lor the ensuing season resulted as follows:—President, Mr. A. H. ILimlniarsh; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. E. Udlin, A. Myers, 0. K. Dfck, ]>'. O'Connell, G. Orcvillc, and G. King, A. nindiuarsh, and A. Shaw; delegate to W.F.A., Mr. W. Duncan. Tho prospects for tile coming season were reported to be very good, and it was announced that practice would commence on March 29. It was dpcided to enter fourth, fifth, anil sixth division teams for championship fixture^.
LACROSSE.
The annual general meeting of the Capitol Lacrosse Club wis held a'. Montgomery's Pooms on Holiday evening, when there was a good attendance. Mr. Montgomery was voted to the. chair. The report and balance-sheet showed that the club was on a. very sound footing, carrying a balance from last season. There were a number of new players present at the fneeting, ami the coming sejson lias a very prosperous outlook. The chairman (Mr. A. Montgomery), after a short spseeli, congratulated the club on its success season by winning the Proud Cup. The club : played nine matches, winning 7, drawing 1, and losing 1. Ho also congratulated the club captain (P. liankin) on the capable way in which he managal •and brought his team forward. The eluß was very unfortunate and very much hnndicanped last season'!:y losing a number of their most experienced players.
SWIMMING.

(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) ' , Feilding, March 11. The Feilding Athletic Club held an evening meeting on the racecourse yesterday, when 220 and 880 vards events were decided. T. Hicks (16vds. and 35yds.) won both events, being followed home by IV. Reid and C. Brown in the 220 vards handicap, and by Lowe and Uf'l.Wal in tho 880 yards ho.ndicai). AMERICAN ATHLETES.
THE PROPOSED VISIT. For some lime past the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has been m communication with the American Association, with regard to;n .proposal for a team offive of the liest American athletes to visit the Dominion. 'It was decided some time ago to seek the assistance and approval of the Australian Athletic Cnion, and al; Monday's meeting of the New Zealand Council a reply was received from Mr. R. Coombes, president of the Australian Union. Mr. Coombes slated, inter nhii, tli.it lie had (.'lideuvourod to ijct tho union executive .together, but owing to a prominent member being out of town lie had not been able lo do so. He thought the association could safely undertake to negotiate direct with tho A.A.tl. of the United States, and lie felt lie voiced the sentiments of the associations in Ui« various Australian States w\ien he said that the union executive was prepared to give the necessary sanction. He had thought over the matter in its every aspect, and felt that it would be best .'f the New Zealand Association wrote His various State associations direct', outlining exactly what they proposed, giving the probable route of the team's tour, dates, etc., and estimated expenditure, because if he wrote them there was much dlita that he could not supply. He tliouglit the associatioii need oniy write Victoria', New South Wales, and Tasmania, although' possibly Queensland might collie in. .He hoped that this would mefet with the approval of tho association)- feeling that affa.'.rs would he expedited by the associations so writing to the various Slates instead of himself.
Members thought it- n good idea to write to the other associations, but the chairman (Mr. Marryatt) deemed this course inadvisable until the. council heard from Mr. Sullivan, President of the American Amateur Athletic Association. Mr. Ctisack moved that a letter be writ, ten to the various State associations ad. vising them that the JJew Zealand Conncil'wasin communication with Mr. Suliivim regarding tha proposed.tour, and that, as soon as it received information it would further communicate with them. The motion was carried.
BOXING.
FRANK MANTELL IN PARIS. The American boxer, Frank Mantell, ivhom the State Athletic Commission of New York named middle-weight champion of the world a few months back, arrived in Paris on Monday (writes a correspondent oil January 30). >• Mantell intends challenging the winner of the KlauirPapke contest on March 5. What with .Eddie M'Goorty,. who is, it appears, on liis way there/ Paris will be the rendezvous of American talent iu the middleweight division.
HUTT VALLEY HOCKEY CLUB.
The fourth annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Hockey. Ciub was held in the Town Hall buildings last evening. Mr. B. Ginger; occupied tho chair, and there was a good attendance, The report and balancesheet, which showed marked success last season, were adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr. T. M. Wilford; president, Mr. 10. P. Bunny; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Baldwin, I3 1 . Riddifbrd, J. Duthie, I{. Dwyer, and Dr..
