MR. M'GOWEN RETIRING.

The State Premier, Mr. M'Gowen, confirms the rumours that lie intends to retire from the leadership of the Labour party find t.he present Parliament. Ho declares that the responsibilities attaching •to the office have weighed very heavily lately, and in justice to himself he feels it necessary to relinquish his position. Mr. M'Gowen does not say he is retiring from politics altogether, but he will never again accept office. He denies the rumour that he is resigning the Premiership for the Agent-Generalship.
