-r ♦ PROPOSAL TO PURCHASE STOCKS. APPEAL FOR FUNDS. By Telegraph—Preea Association— Copyright (Ecc. March 10, 11.45 p.m.) Peking, March 10. The National Opium Congress, recognising the Hardships that would be inflicted on opium merchants by tlio prohibition of the traffic, has suggested the purchase of the stocks, and has decided to appeal to the missionary bodies and Christian organisations of the world to raise a fund for the purchase of the stocks at ccst price. It is proposed to burn the opium at tho treaty ports.
