SYDNEY GAS STRIKE.
TERMS OF'SETTLEMENT. ALL MEN TO BE REINSTATED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydnoy, MaTcli 10. The meeting of the gasmen on Saturday accepted the agreement for the settlement of the strike. It is provided that the men shall resume forthwith, anil that the Government shall summon a special session of Parliament within twelve days, with a view to amending tlio Arbitration Act, and shall allow the dispute to bo dealt with by a Wages Board. The companies are to give retrospective efl'ect to the date of the resumption of work. Any excess in the rates contained in tlio board's award, and any increase in the gas rate are to operate for a sufficient period to enable the companies to recover the amount expended under the provision for retrospective effect. All the strikers are to be restored to their former positions, and there is to bo no victimisation of the men by the companies, nor by the men, or any union of men, employed by the companies. The gasmen's secretary <states that' if the men had not had the hospitals and the public in mind they would have been firmer in their demands. Mr. Wade, Leader of the Opposition, has promised Mr. M'Gowen that the Opposition will not take advantage of Mr. Holman's and the consequent shrinkage of the "Government's majority, during the special session to amend the Arbitration Act. . The strike cost the men .£6300 in loss of wages.'
