The Hon, W. F. Massey left last evening for Christchurch, where he will deliver a policy speech to-night. Mr. Mns"ey intends to speak also at Oxford and at Waimnto before returning to Weliing™n ' about a fortnight lienco. The Hon. r. M. B. Fisher returned from Auckland lYiaterdny afternoon. He will leave for son th on Saturday, and on March 24 will leave the Bluff by the Mauugaiuii for Australia, where he is to discuss trade reciprocal arrangements with the Hon. A. Fisher, Prime Minister of tho Commonwealth, and also to attend a reciprocity conference at which Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will be the parties rcpresenfed. The Hon. A. L. Herdman Is at Haniner Springs, and will return to Wellington on Thursday. Tho Hon. R. H. Rhodes is at Christchurch. The Hon. W. 11. llerries will bo at Whnngarei today. The Hon. H. D. Dell is in Wellington. The Hon. W. Fraser leaves to-day by the Napier express for a tour of tho East Coast and North Auckland districts. Tho Hon. Dr. Poniare returned to town yesterday.
Father Quoely, of Wellington, leaves for London by tho Arawa on March 20.
The Hon. E. Mitclielson, of Auckland, has made good progress towards recovery from his rpeent accident. Unfortunately, an attack of pneumonia has supervened, which will necessitate his remaining at Mr. 11. H. Adams's house, Takapuna, for still another fortnight or three weeks.
Mr. L. S. Curtis, assistant Town Clcl'k, Onslow Borough, has been opponted Town Clerk at Ohakune.
Mr. W. Calder, the chairman of the recently constituted Country Roads Board of Victoria, is a New Zealander (writes the Sydney correspondent of the Auckland "Herald"), and was for five years employed in the Survey Department of tho Dominion. He was responsible for much road construction work in tho North and South Islands. Twenty-fivo years ago he went to Victoria, and has practised his profession there ever since. He was for nine years engineer for the Tewkesbury Council, and carried out works which involved nn expenditure of ,£BO,OOO. In 1897 ha was appointed engineer to the Praliran (Melbourne) Council, mid since then he has constantly been engaged ill large municipal undertakings.
The Rev. G. P. Quick, of Douglas Rectory, Cork (Ireland), and his son, Mr. S. Quick, have been in Auckland for' sonie days past. After leaving Ireland they stayed _ some time in South Africa, and then visited tho more important towns in Australia. . They left on Saturday on a visit to.Rotorua, and subsequently proceed to Wellington, from which port they will sail for Monte Video for the purpose of visiting various South American cities, before tlipy leave finally for Ireland.
Professor I?. ,T. Scott, of Canterbury College, leaves Wellington for London by the Arawa on March 20.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ross, of Marton, intend leaving for London by the Arawa next Thursday week.
A meeting of the directors of the Northern Coal Company took place at Auckland on Thursday, and at the conclusion of the business Lieutenant-Colonel Holgate, who, with his wife, is leaving on u twelve months'trip to Europe, was presented with a handsome suit-and-drc-ssing-case. Tho presentation was made on behalf of the donors by Mr. E. W. Alison, the reason being that those at Wliaugarei who hod contributed could not be present, and although tho Board of Directors had nothing to do with the gift, it was decided to ask the chairman to hand it over. Mr. Alison said the subscribers were all men who had been in the employ of the company for some time, and being in eloso touch with Colonel Holgate had learned to appreciate his many good qualities. They recognised that while, that gentleman had no time for those who would not do their duly to tho company, still he fully appreciated those who did, and treated the men under him with every consideration.
, Captain I. T. Standish, R.N.Z.A., hiving rtlnrned from England, has taken up the duties of adjutant to the Wellington Field Artillery. Brigade, with headquarters at Palmerston North.

Dr. Truby King, Superintendent of Seacliff Mental' Hospital, is to leave next month on a visit to England. In London he will attend a conference on infant mortality which has been convened by tho National Association for the Prevention of Infant Mortality aiid for the Welfare of Infancy. The conference which is to sit on August t and 5 will lie attended by representatives from various parts of the English-speaking world Dr. Trub.v King will be absent from New Zealand for eight or ten months; Tho Rev. E, S. Buchanan, 31.A., B.Sc., left for ' Christchurch last evening. Ho will return to Wellington in a fortnight, and will lecturo on "Robert Browning." He also proposes to lecture on the "Old Latin Text, which ho has been investigating in Europe. A very old resident of Greymouth, Mr. J. A. Eisscnhardt, died yesterday afternoon, aged 83 years.—Press Association.
