'VARSITY SPORTS. DUNCAN'S FIELD DAY, , The Victoria College Amateur Athletic CJill) held its sixth annual sports meeting oil Saturday afternoon, in tlio Wellington College Ground. There was a good attendance, including a large number of ladies, who were the guests of the club at; afternoon tea. The races did not result in any record performances, though the club standard was equalled in a couple of instances. A. T. .Duncan had a regular field day, winning (lie three races in whicli lie competed.- W. Dennett and L. .1. Shaw each won two events. From, a time point of.'view, the best performance of the day was A. Hudson's effort in the three-mile Hat race, won from scratch in tlio sensational time of 14niin. 52sec. Apropos, the track on which the sports were held was about 300 yds. round. The question which presented itself to the spectators was: Did the competitors run ojio lap short or more? At the To Aro Baths Inst week a relay race between teams representing the Columbia Private Hotel and the Wavorlev Private Hotel was decided, and resulted in a ilin for the latter team. The winning team was captained by Mr. T. King, and the defeated team j by Mr. —' Robertson. ' LONG-DISTANCE SWIM. .; AVON BY A LADY. (By Tcleiraph.—Presß Association.) Auckland, March 9. The second longdistance race organised this season by the Ponsonby Swimming Club took place yesterday, the course being from the end of Queen Street Wharf .to Shelly Beach, Ponsonby, about a mile and a. quarter. The winner was the limit swimmer, Miss D. Large, who had twenty minutes start, and H. Limn (4min. 50sec.) took second place. The two scratch, men, Inkster and Kcruot, made a great race of it, for third place, and the latter just managed to gain the verdict by inches. Their time was 34rain. 30sec. ' ; RIFLE SHOOTING. PETONE RIFLE CLUB. The Petone Hide ,Club held its first shoot, in the third series of four matches, , firing over the 300 and 500 yards ranges. Good.weatlier conditions prevailed, which enabled some good shooting to be done. Scores:—

The report and financial' statement, to be presented at the annual meeting of the I'etone Football Club, which is to bo held on Wednesday night, show that, tlio pastt season is looked upon as being most satisfactory. Much more interest on the part of players was t;iken in training operations, which resulted in tho annexation of three championships and tho'occupying of good positions by tho remaining teams. The energy displayed by younger members was particularly pleasing. Last sonson was a record scoring one. Out of 71 matches played by all teams tho aggregate number won was 56, with 8 drawn, leaving only 7 losses, The committeo congratulated Mr. D. S. M'Farlane on obtaining the highest number ,of points i-corcd, viz., 82. Financially, the club is in a very'healthy stale. A credit balance is shown at '.£35, liiul in addition improvements were niado to tho gymnasium. A meeting of the boys' division of the Brooklyn Football Club was held in tlio baptist Schoolroom at Brooklyn on Friday evening, Mr. Thompson .presiding.
