RACING AT FLEMINGTON. LAST DAY. I PIASTRE WINS AGAIN.. fey Tsleeraph—Prcsa Association—Copyright (Eec. March 9, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, March 8. ■ There was a splendid attendance at Flemington for the concluding' day of the. V.E.C. Autumn meeting, though there were wintry conditions, with a biting wind. Flemington had a record week, not' withstanding the falling-off on Thursday, thus bearing out the experience of all other clubs that, in spit'o of anti-racing legislation, race-goers are rapidly increasing. A feature of the wee|c was tho improvement'in tho. racing,'owing to the ■ stipendiary stewards taking exclusive supervision. , : For staying power, the three-year-olds at the meeting proved only, a moderate lot. The fields to-day were small, but ' the racing was good. The Lintie, a half-sister to Uncle Sam, proved her speed on the course as well as on the h'ack.> winning the Elms Handicap, very easily. The Place Handicap was fought out by three Sydney houses. Didua gained the verdict, Loch Amos failing to oomo up to expectations after Thursday's runfling. Booligal repeated Tuesday's performance, by running off while leading by h "street." ' Deeble, who was riding Vanruard when the broke a collarbone. Scrutineer was purchased by the owner of Pinpress after the race, and goes to South Australia in charge of Fred. Burnfor the Easter racing. ( The historical Champion Stakes produced, as usual, a small field. Little interest was attracted! owing to Piastre's previous performance, when Offa made the pace. The same tactics were again repeated, and . the race was never in doubt. The time was very slow for tho first mile, bilt the pace .was then , put on owing to the time provision in the conditions. The result wag fairly fast, but 2} seconds slower than the record of 1896. . Details of the racing are as follow:— • ELM? HIiNDICAIV of 200 sovs. Seven furlongs.
