SYDNEY GAS STRIKE.
THE AGREEMENT. EVERY MAN TO HIS OLD PLACE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyright , Sydney, March 8. After the conference Mr. M'Gowen announced that an agreement had been reached. By mutual consent the men "will go back to work on Saturday afternoon. He declined to disclose tho terms. From other sources it is gathered that a meeting of strikers will be held this morning to ratify the provisional agreement, which, there is reason to beliove, will prove acceptable to them. At a meeting of gasworkers yesterday evening satisfaction was expressed at the favourable turn of events. The Secretary of the Gasmen's Union stated that tho only thing ho could disclose alxmt the conference was that the agreement provided that every man went back to his old place. SERVICE RESTORED. (Rec. March 9, 5.5 p.m.) Sydnoyi March 9. The gas service has been restored. There is general gratification, at the settlement; Mr. M'Gowen (the State Premier) claims that the result is an absolute triumph for conciliation.
