Edgar Alfred Hatton, bookmaker, and a young woman, after a drive in a taxi, entered the bar of a hotel in. the city. The couple were having a drink when Hatton is alleged to have drawn a revolver and fired at the woman, wounding her in the left breast. Then Hatton fired twice at himself, the bullets entering his head. Hatton is in a 6erious condition. The woman 'gave her name as Violet Coghlan,
