WEEK-END CABLES.

♦ NEW REGULATIONS. Additional regulations governing the conditions under which week-end cables may be seat aro publislied in tho Gazette this week, \aiid operate forthwith. Such telegrams (05 cables) are to be transmitted between midnight on Saturday and noon on Monday, and shall be subject to the same conditions as are applicable to ordinary deferred* telegrams. They must be written in plain language and fully addressed. When .a code indicator address is used the inland charge of tho country of destination shall be prepaid in addition to the regulation charge for the message. The cable route shall bo clearly markod by tho sender in the space pro. vided on the form. Delivery of week-end telegrams shall be effected in the United Kingdom by posting from the terminal cable station, and in New Zealand by posting from the telegraph office at Auckland or Wakanuaka, as tho caso may be, in each case by night mail 011 Monday. A week-end telegram on which tho inland rate has been paid shall bo telegraphed to the 'office of destination, and posted thence for delivery by tho general night mail on Holiday. Necessary prefixes, and the words in the address, in tost, and in the signature shall be counted according to tho rules at present in force for counting ordinary cable telegrams. The cable chargo for a week-end telegram shall be 9cl. per word, subiect to a minimum charge of 18s., equivalent to :v message of twenty-four words. The inland rate in tho United Kingdom and in Now Zealand shall lie Id. per word each. Tho sender of a week-end telegram desirous of prepaying tho reply shall deposit Hie amount, chargpable for n reply iit the full ordinary rate; the indicator K.V. sha'l bo inserted before tho address of the telegram, and shall be paid for bv (lie sender. The addressee, however, may use the amount: so pi-enaid for a full rate, a deferred, or a week-end telegram. Prepayment of reply can only bp accepted willi week-end telegrams to be telegraphed throughout tho whole course of transmission, ntul cannot be accepted on messages posted under these regulations.
