Time, lmin. 49sec. . NOTES, ON THE RACING. (By. Telegraph.—Special lteporter.) v ' Dannevirke, March 6. ' The Dannevirke meeting was concluded in glorious weather, ana before a good, attendance. It was an easy day/ as far as "picking .them'' .was concerned, and the' tavourites were always, to the fore, but backers had to accept, very ■ short prices. Several riders were up betore ' the-stewards during the day, but no action was taken. - , '
The Great Mogul- and. Innoladdo were evenly backed in the Maiden Plate, while' good money also came lor Marblehead. The'first-humed pair'jumped into thoir stride very quickly, and, as the bend was iiiade, Marbieheau was in third place. The two then cleared out from the field, and had the race to themselves. ' The big colt, stayed on best, aud won by several lengths, with tlio place-getters out of it. The remainder of tho field were in a bunch as they passed the post. ■■ Kina'was made a very snort-priced favourite in tho big handicap, and he duly won, but had to undergo the ordeal of a protest lodged by the owner of the third horse. There seemed to be an impression that the chestnut had a bad passage yesterday, but Emerson told the stipendiary steward that such was not the case.. .He was only chopped once at the half-mile. To-day he was early in front, but, going down the back, Emerson steadied nim, aud allowed Montreal to make play. At the, three furlongs Vi joined' the leader, but as .they entered the straight, tlie favourite - came again, and, .quickly settling the other pair, won cleverly by a length. Bonny Boy was fourth, aud Ariom next. The stewards did not take long in dismissing the protest, and ordering the paying out on- the winner.
Caher Davon was ridden to-day by B. l)eeley, • and the public again went for her in the Telephone Hack Handicap. She climbed badly over the first ■ halfmile, but then settled down, and won all out by a half-length from Axis and ' Martlet, who had been in charge the whole . way. New Guinea plunged up badly at the barrier,-and the field was dispatched without him. Tho stipendiary. steward asked for an inquiry into the mare's running on the first day,' but after heuririg .the evidence, the stewards decided that the explanation was satisfactory. The •running of Teviotdaie was also questioned with the same result. With Astor withdrawn, ou account of 'her soreness, tho public invested heavily .on the Highden-owned Bertrada, in t'hfe .Juvenile. Handicap, and, taking charge at the barrier rise, she made no race of jit. The opposition was very poor, and it 'would be difficult to place any of thi?m where they would' win a race in their present state. It now became a day of hot favourites, and, as they wero materialising, the pub-! lie did not 'mind reinvesting the money - this time; Settler, with Deeley in the 6addlo, was "the goods," and he won with- : out effort from Sir Daniel and, Borsil. Hautu -unseated his rider at the barrier, and the field was dispatched without him. Master Malachi bolted a mile before tlio start, and broke a blood vessel. After the race he. again, bolted, but the clerk of the course stopped hia career after two furlongs had been covered. Deeky rode his third winning mount in the Kaitoko Welter Handicap, when ho eteered Ascalon home. Mon Ami was a good favourite, but she ran badly at the itart. Our Queen and Ascalon led off, and they were in front throughout. In the straight Ascalon shook off Our Queeri; and won by a length. Crown Pearl ran a good race under his big weight, but a long delay at tho post, did not.improve his chances. Awahou (Oliver) was the final favourite, m tho Weltor Handicap, and he won, though Jtisty had hiin doing his best at the finish. Huia was a fair third,-with the others well beaten. RACING AT FLEMINGTON. ' THIRD DAY. LOCH PLATE WON BY PIASTRE. By Telegraph—Prees Association-Copyright (Kcc. March 6, 10.30 p.m.) . Flemington,,Mi)rch G. The V.R.C. autumn, meeting was ran tinued at Flemington to-day in cold, dull, ,showery weather. There wag a strong 'wind, and tho record attendances of tho first two days was not repeated, though there was a good crowd ia the enclosures. The courso was heavy. Both Government House parties were present.
The short races were run on tho turn instead of up the straight. The two most interesting races.were the All Aged States and tho Loch Plate. Eudorus, who is considered by P. Lewis to be the fastest horse the latter has yet ridden, .was reckoned to have a mortgage on anything up to a mile. After that his performances are disappointing. To-day it was considered that the only; horse to have any chance against him in' •the All Aged Stakes was Cider, if well. It proved a one-horso race, for Eudorus led to the straight, spread-eagled the field, and won in a canter. In the Loch Plate, the meeting of Piastre and Wolawa crcated intense .interest, tho Sydney people hotly favouring Piastre, ' and tho Melbourne "sports" championing Wolawa. Piastre's tactics in the Essendon Stakes were repeated, OfFa being sent out to take up the running, and Piastre running last for about threo furlongs, He got the measure of the field at the end of ■ a mile, and led into the straight, Wolawa that stage being in difficulties.' The Sydney horse won handsomely, and Wolawa, who was struggling, failed to gain a place. Sheriff Muir. ran a good race. . In the River Handicap, the conditions provided that the lowest handicap woiglit be'7st. 7lb. Through an oversight, Mr. Menzies adopted the 6st. 71b. minimum, so notices were .posted notifying that all weights wore raised a stone. ,The following are the results:— HOPEFUL STAKES, of 250 sovb.
