WAIMANA'S MOVEMENTS. The Shaw-Savill cargo-carrier Wtfimana leavos Port Chalmers for Lyttelton,. Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington. She id due at this port on Maxell 20, and eails for Auclvland on March 25. Home loading will be completed at the latter port, and departure taken for London, on March 29. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The Marino Department have been advised that the Hikutu Rock buoy in Tokomaru Bay, which was washed away on January 6, has been replaced. ELEVEN-STORIED LINER. . The Hamburg-American Company's- new liner Imperator is to sail on May 7 on her maiden voyage to New York. She will be the largest passenger ship afloat, and is an eleven-storied floating palace. Her dimensions are:—Length, 710 ft.; displacement, 50,C00 tons; and her engines ar 80,000 h.p. She will accommodate 5000 persons, and among other luxuries, she will have three electric lifts, a winter garden, several summer houses, a theatre, a gymnasium, a restaurant, a 3a Ritz, a tallroom, a nursery, swimming baths, a telephone, bureau, and a cottage cafe. The principal swimming bath is a copy of one unearthed at Pompeii, with mosaic pavements that are replicas of those discovered at Treves. The dining saloon, in Louis XVI style, is 300 ft. long. This liner de luxe will be hard to beat, though the Cunard Company will try to do it with the Aquitania- (50,000 tons), and tho White Star Line with the Gigantic (52,000 tons).
En route from Wellington to Nelson and West Coast ports on Tuesday next tho Union Company's Mapourika will make a call at Picton.
The F. and S, Line's steamer Wcstracath, now loading at Waitara, will proceed thence to Lyttelton. The vessel returns to Wellington on March 13, to complete loadiurr and/ coaling. Final departure will be taken for Avonmouth, via Las Palmap, on -March 15.

It is expected that the Union Company's collier ICurow will be ready to leave Picton for Newcastle to-morrow. She loads coal at the latter port for Lyttelton.
Arahura, s.s., is expected to leave Nelson for Wellington direct at 6 a.m. to-day. Sue will omit tho usual call at Picton this trip.
Telegraphic advice received from Karamea yesterday stated that it was expected that the coastal steamer Mangapapa would bo able to leave Karamea for Wellington to-day.
The Shaw-Savill steamer Arawa- leaves Lyttelton for Wellington on March 13. Tho vessel completes loading here, aud sails Pnally from this port for London on March 20.

she is to load timber at West Haven for liors. The Tyser liner Indralema left Auckland on Tuesday for Napier and Wellington. She is due at this port on March 10, and •sails for the Bluff on March 12. The Indralema has 1500 tons of London cargo to discharge here.
It is stated that, in connection, with the big scheme wliioh is being carried out by the Norton Griffiths Company for the enlargement of the. harbour of St. John, New Brunswick, Messrs. Cainmell, Laird, and Co., Birkenhead, have decided to lay down plant for the construction of the largest war and merchants ships. Similar facilities are to be provided at Sydney, Cape Breton, by a syndicate, ir./ which Messrs. John Brown and Co. r Clydebank, and the Fairfield Company, Goran, are jointly in* terested, whilst at Montreal Messrs. Vickers, Ltd., of Barrow, are busy with the establishment of a yard for the building of Dreadnoughts, cruisers, and destroyers. Telegraphic advice received from Kaipara last evening stated that the Union, cargocarrier Kittawa left there for Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne yesterday afternoon. The Government-training ship Amokura arrived at Auckland from Kermedeo Island at 9.30 a.m. yesterday. She ig expected to leave the northern port for Wellington on Saturday. Farewell Spit reported that a barquentine, bound oast, had passed there at noon yesterday. The sailer's flags could not be made out. The New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Buteshire left Auckland at 3.40 p.m. yesterday for Tokomaru Ba.y, Napier, and Wellington. The vessel sails for London from this port about the middle of the .month. ASTRONOMICAL. CHRONOMETER RATING NOTICE. Hector Observatory, Wellington.—The position of the Hector Observatory is as follows Latitude, 4ideg. 17min. 3.768e0. South. Longitude, 11 hours 39min. 4.275e0. East of Greenwich.' Height, above 1909 mean 6ea level, 418 foet. Chronometor Rating Notice.—At 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer iignal for rating chronometers will be sent from the Observatory to the Public Telegraph Ofllce and to tho Dominion Museum. The needle will move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean timo, when a chronometer set to Greenwich mean time should show 13 hours 30min. Any difference will be tho error of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At 9 p.m. correct time will also be signalled from the Observatory by means of nlcctric lights. A groen light will bo switched on at about 6.45 p.m., a red one at about 6.55 p.m., and a white one at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will be switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of Now Zealand standard mean time. Tho preparatory switching on of tho lights must be considered -as only approximately correct, and must not he used for rating chronometers. The correct time for rating will bo given by switching off the lights aimul* taneoualy at 9 p.m. ,
