LABOUR DEPARTMENT PICNIC
The annual picnic of the Labour Dsjiartmont was held at Day's Bay yesterday, about forty officials and friends making the trip. The weather was tine, and a very enjoyable time was spoilt-with sports and games. A tennis handicap for ladies was won by Miss Henderson, and a cricket match was played between the teams selected by Messrs. Hurle and Cusey, tha former -winning by 12S for -thrco wickets to fifty-two. Other events resulted as follow!— Swimming _ race (men), 11. S. Hurle j throwing cricket-ball (ladies); Miss Henderson! running long jump handicap, V. It. Bernard (16ft. 2in.)j ladies' fifty yards handicap, Miss Delaney; men's 75 yards handicap. ,V. It. Bernard; wheelbarrow race, Miss Salmon and J. Mnlcaliy; relay raco, 200 yards, V. R. Bernard's team (Bernard, Bennett, Mrs.- Rowley and Miss Cowie); consolation race, R. T. Bailey. A private challenge match of 100 yards scratch, was run between Messrs. M'lntosh and Rrchards for a purse of .£5. They ran a dead-heat. Mr. F. W. Rowley, Deputy-Chief Inspector, presented the trophies won.
