Mr. ,T. E. Stansell, sen., it is stated, is forming a company for the purpose of erecting a picturo theatre, shops and offices, on land adjoining fhe Public Library. The company's capital is to , consist of .£3OOO in..£l shares. > , Mr. T. IV. Venn opened the horticultural show, held under the auspioes of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild,-on-Fri-day afternoon. The number of 'entries exceeded those the previous year by 100, and tho exhibition was in every way successful. Messrs. W. Clayton and j. ualland were joint secretaries.' The points' prizes were awarded as follow: — Pot plants, Mrs.F. \V. Venn, prize donated by Mr. J. Mitchell; cut blooms, Mrs. Galland, donated by Mr. A. Speirs, Foxton: garden produce, Mr. M. ftewth, donated by Mr. Aim; fruit, Mr. Roos, donated by Mrs. .Aim; farm produce, Moutoa School, donated bv Mr. M'Pherson; decorative, Mrs. T. Gibson, donated by Mrs. M'Pherson ; cookery, Miss Newth, donated by Mrs. Gajland; home industries, Mrs. S. "W. Carter, donated by Mr.- Farqher; fancy work, Mrs. Gibson, donated by Mr.' ♦T. Mitchell. Competitions were held during the evening, the Dramatic Society's Orchestra, under the leadership of Miss Laurvig'playing selections.
