PICNICS.
$ The annual picnic in connection with tlio Potone Railway Workshops employees was held at Trentliam racecourse on Saturday. Tho fine weather attracted a large attendance, and tho day was most enjoyable. Amongst those present were: Messrs. Carson and Pearson (manager/and locomotive engineer respectively), and several heads of departments. Much interest centred around the sports programme, the results of which are as Under:—Cycle, race: W. Martin, 1; E. Brown, 2; H. Anslow, 3. Apprentices' and junior labourers' race: W. Hoare, 1; R. Thompson, 2; ■T. Barrow, 3. Carpenters', Painters' and lifters' race: H. Garr, 1; J. Barrow, 2; W Martin, 3. Blacksmiths' and boilermakers' race: J. J. Bell, 1; R. Thompson, 2; H. Devine, .3. Hay ward's Handicap, 100 yds.: G. Parker, scr., 1; H. Gurr, 2yds„ 2; G. Dent, 6yds., 3. Single ladies' race: Sylvia Davis, 1; Gladys Wnrren, 2. Fitters' and machine shop raco: G. Dent, 1; c. Bold, 2; G. Sullivan, 3. Married ladies' race: Mrs. Nicholls, 1; Mrs. Pollock, 2; Mrs. Olson, 3. Married men's raco: E. Cambourne, 1; J. Young, 2; H. Onslow, 3. Married ladies' consolation race- Mrs. Smith,.l; Mrs. Walked, 2; Mrs. Brown, 3. Three-legged raco: Guthrio and Calcinai, 1; Corson and Ryan, 2. Mr. Kennedy was secretary of the picnic committee. On Saturday last the firm of Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., entertained their employees and friends at a picnic at Mason's Gardens, Lower Hutt. Thero was a largo attendance and a most enjoyablo day was spent. During the day a sports programme was carried through with the following results:—Boot race, Tilyard; 100 yds. junior handicap, Israel; lieads of department?, W. J. llueston; married ladies' race, Mrs. Barr; warehouse championship, R. Lambert; children's race, Master Meeker; egg and spoon race, Mrs. Skelly; three-legged race, Lambert and Pettit; 880 yds., W. Finlayson; single-la-dies' race, Miss Higliet; wheelbarrow race, Israel and Young; cigarette race, Ward and Miss Bentley; thread tho neodlo raco, Mrs. Croskery ond Miss Laurenson (dead lieat); department relay race, Fancy Department; nail-driving competition, Mrs, Harris; guessing competition, Mrs. Barr; tug-of-war, Three Lower Floors' team. A picnic held under the direction of the Hutt and Petone Carriers' Union was held at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Saturday. A very largo party left by brakes, and an enjoyable time was spent in sports, games, etc. Mr. Kent was a most energetic secretary for the outing.
