SIR W. H. WHITE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, February 27. Obituary-rSir William Henry White. [Sir W. 11. White was born at Devonport on February 2, 1815. Ho was in tho Constructive Department of the Admiralty from 18G7 t'o 1883, rising to the rank of Chief Constructor; lie. was Professor of Naval Architecture at tho Royal Sehoo. of Naval Architecture, and tho Royal Naval College, 1870-81 ; organised and directed tho warship building department of Armstrong and Co., Newcast'lo, 1883-85; Director of Naval Construction and Assistant Controller of tho Navy, October, 1885, to February, 1902, and during that l>eriod was the responsible designer of all H.M. ships. He resigned this position in consequence of ill-health, and was awarded a special grant of money by vote of Parliament in recognition of exceptional services to tho Navy.]
