CENTRAL MISSION.
Interesting harvest thanksgiving services aro to be held on Sunday under the auspices of the Wellington Central Mission. In the morning a musical service will take place at the Herbert Street Hall at 11 o'clock. Tho service will bo conducted by the Eev. E. O.- Blamires, and items will be given by Miss Lulu Arnold and Mr. I'. E. Newton. There will also bo two selections by tho Boys' Band. In the evening services of a special character will bo conducted at the New Theatre, Manners Street.
Somo statements wero mado to the Dominions' Koyal Commission at Dunedin on Tuesday that fairly startled tho members, says tho "Otago Daily Times." Mr. Arber (secretary of the Dunedin Expansion League), in the course of his evidence. stated that a sum of .£2OOO gros9 had been taken off 12 aores in Central Otago. Sir Eider Haggard, who was the first to recover his breath, asked, in a faint voice, what was grown on liio land, and Mr. Arbcr replied that it was apricots, peaches, and other fruits. "Phenomenal," said tho well-known and popular author. The witness added that .tGO, and .£IOO an acre had been taken off fruit-growing land in tho same locality, and that after four years, when an orchard was in full bearing, .£BO or ,£IOO net per aero could bo obtained.
