ROTHSCHILD AS BEGGAR.
1 Many stories, ■ with or without good foundation, uro told of the Rothschild family. In'a book, "Tho Romance of tho Rothschilds," by Ignatiui Bulla, recently published, ono is related of Baron James Rothschild, 'who looked after tho intorests of tho firm in Paris. The famous painter, Eugeno Delacroix, who was struck with tho features of Baron Rothschild, decided that he would like to have the Enron' for n model, dressed in beggar's rags. The Baron liked the idea, and consented. On the following day ho went to tho painter's studio, attired in costume proper to hin part, and, when ho knocked ono of tho artist's pupils opened tho door. He' looked compassionately' at tho "poor beggar," and gavo him n coin or two. He was not a littlo astonished when, on the following day, a servant of Baron Rothschild handed him tho following letter:— "Dear Sir; You will find enclosed tho capital which you handed me at tho door of M. Delacroix's studio, with tlio interest and compound interest on it—a sura of 10,000 francs. You can cash tlio cheque at my bank in tho Rue Lnfitto whenever you like.—Baron James Rothschild." It's a good story, and we hope it is Itrue.*-" Westminster Gazette."
