THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL,
The quarterly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was hold last evening. Mr. L. G. Mackay presiding. There were also present: Messrs. 11. Keesing,- P. White-Par-sons, l'\ P. .Wilson, I''. Grady, junr., A. L/ Berry, K A. Laird, M. E. Dennistou, A. J. Jl'Caw, A. G. Henderson, and D. H. Kean. ■
The quarterly report of tho Management Committee, already published, Y/as adopted. . A cash statement by the secretary showed :—On deposit in. the Savings Bank, .1288 Bs. lid.; cash in hand, 12s.j cash in bank, .£lB5 155.-Bd. , >. ;■ A statemont of accounts in connection with: the tour of the-English team -showed that the Auckland match resulted in a net profit of .£lO3 4s. 9d;; the Wellington match in a net profit of £35 3s. Id., and Zealand and' Australian championship meeting' at Hastings in a net profit of £217' 0s). ?d. Of this amount £78 13s. 4d. is due to the Hastings Club, and : tho'balance of £138 13s. sd. remains to the credit of the New Zealand Association. ' ' ' . ■
The dinner tendered to the Englishmen in' Wellington, prior to their departure for Sydney, cost .£'l2 2s. - '• . Statements of accounts regarding the match at Christchurch are not. yot avail-* able. . . ■
* The Council decided to add to tho report of the Management Committee the following names in the list of those mentioned in appreciation of services rendered during ;the Wellington match:—Major O'Sul•livan, Sir. M. J. Brookes, of the Dresden Piano Co., Mr. D. D. Burkett, of the Union Co., and Mr. Wm. Walton, of the Methodist . Church Committee.
;' ;A';letter received from tho Lawn Tennis -Association of Australia reported that in'dieiitions .pointed to the certainty of;the Australasian tour of the British team yielding a profit of • approximated .£2IOO, irresjiective of tho Davis Cup profits, which were estimated at £1600.
: The' Buckley' Cup competition will be ■held at Sydney'on March 19 and 20 next. The Wellington Association asked for a ruling on the following:—"l 9an honorary member'of an affiliated club eligible to compete in an authorised tournament?" ' The recommcndation'of-.the Management Committee, which reads -as under, was adopted:—"When a life member or an honorary member, having full ,club privileges, is elected, the club undertakes all responsibility and. liability ; where the honorary member is such on' his own initiative, he cannot claim any privileges therein, and cannbtplay in a tournament until he becomes a full financial member of the club.'"
It was decided that the Earl of Liverpool bo requested to accept the office of patron of the association, in place of Lord Islington. '/' \
