KINEMATOGRAPHS IN CHURCHES.

A BECENT DECREE. The S. Consistorial Congregation has issued the following Decree, which is of universal application:—'"During recent years it has happened not- infrequently that scenic representations by means of {cinematographs and projections are'held in churches. But even though this has been dono in the pious desire of aiding in the religious instruction of the faithful, it has been seen to give rise easily to dangers and inconveniences. Since, therefore, a number of bishops have asked the Eoly See whether'the custom can be tolerated or should be suppressed, the matter was brought before the Most Eminent Fathers of the S. Consistorial Congregation. These, considering that buildings dedicated to God, in which tho Divino mysteries are celebrated , and the faithful stimulated to heavenly and supernatural thoughts, should not be converted to othcrr uses, and especially to scenic representations, respectable and pious though they be, decided that all projections' and kinematographio representations ' whatever should be entirely forbidden. (Jur West Holy Father Pope Pius X ratified and confirmed the opinion of tho Most Eminent Fathers, and ordered this general, decree, forbidding such things being dono in churches, to bo published. All things whatsoever to the contrary notwithstanding." The Decree is signed by the Secretary of the Consistorial, Cardinal Do Lai. . . ,
