(By Telojraph— Special Correspondent-.) Hokitika," February 28. At the conclusion of the stock sale on Monday at Earihari, Messrs. Mark, Sprot, and Co.- (Mr. Jeffries, auctioneer) sold by public auction Mr. C. T. lergus'on's handy little' farm of 100 acre% situated in the township of Hunhari, South Westland. The property, which is freehold, has a fine up-to-dato residence thereon.. It fronts the main south road, and adjoins the po?t office and telephone, store, church,'and school. There was a larcre attendance, and bidding waj very brisk. It was started at ,£looo_ by Mr. "Sandy" Jamieson, and, by .650 bids, ouiclclv reached .£1150; the next bid was, jf!2s followed by two of .CIO each, and in £5 "rises it reached -C 1225, when it was knocked down to Mr. 11. H. Adamson, who was warmly congratulated on his purchase. This is the highest price yet vecorded in South Westland for land of liny description, and averages about £12 ss. Ncr acre. Mr. Bernard Ward, a well-known fatmer of Arahura, near Hokitika, has been invited to accept tho vacant seat on tho Westland Board.
