The captain of the steamer Charon has been fined .£7OO. in colineotion With the discovery of seven Chineso stowaways aboard. The evidence showed that they existed for three weeks in cavities scooped , out of the coal, and were unable to stand . up, The Chinese members jf the crew lowered food and water to them. It was disclosed that a relative of, one of . the stowaways, while previously attempting to reach Australia hidden in coal, was, suffocated when tlio steamer .was fumigated.
