CIVIL SERVICE PICNIC.
The annual picnic of the combined Departments of the State Guaranteed Advances, Valuation, and Land and Incoriie Tax was held at Day's Bay on Tuesday. Officers and friends to the number of three hundred made tho trip across to the' Bay, and the competition in the various events on tho sports programme was very keen. The annual cricket match was also cd, a drawn game resulting. The Advances "team, batting first, made 120 runs, Morison (33) being,top score. The combined Departments had scored 75 ior four wickets when stamps were drawn. " The bowls tournament results - were:—• First round: Advances 19 defeated Valuation 14. Fin.il : Advances 18 defeated Tax Department 7. ' . • In the tennis games, Advances defeated Tax Department in the final by 6 sets to 2. The following are the results-, of tho races:—so yards swimming, handicap— Neilson, .1; Bolland, 2. Neatest header— Neilson, 1. Three-legged race—Mio and Scott, 1; Morison. Mid Robertson, 2. * 100 yards .handicap, final—Mio, 1; Scott, 2; .Morison, 3. 50 yards ladies' race—Miss Xjallichan, 1; Miss Doyle, 2. 1 mile walk handicap—Ncal, 1'; Simpson, 2; Douglas, 3.
