EASTER CARNIVAL.

x PROJECTED SEASIDE GALA', A meeting of swimmers was held in the Amateur. Sports' Federation rooms last evening, for the purpose of making arrangements: for the swimming gala which is to be held at'Eyall Bay on Saturday, March' 15, -in connection with the citizens' Easter sports carnival. Tho chairman of tho Wellington Swimming Centre (Mr. J< P.-Atkins) presided. It ivns decided to hold the f;ala on the Saturday afternoon following Good Friday. . The matber of holding a costumed procession through tho town in tho morning was discussed, and was left in the hands of the committee. A portion of the Lyall Bay beach, with seating accommodation, is to; be rop:d off, and a/small charge made, for admission. The chief item of amusement -will be a burlesque on the landing of Captain Cook in New Zealand, and his reception by tho Maoris. This matter was left in the hands of Mr. P. llaima and a committee. '' . Messrs. Blick, Hanna, Perry, Smith, Shields, and Atkins were appointed to manage tho carnival. The offer of a live sheep, for o guessing competition, by Mr. R. B. Grange, was accepted. It was decided to approach' all ladies conneotcd with an}' swimming club, asking them to assist in taking up a collection on the beach. ■' ■ Tha Koseneath and Ivelburne Senior Boy Scouts Troops, have boon allotted for duty on tho beach during the prograss of the .carnival. ' Mr. R. E. M'Dougall, of Aulsebrooks, Ltd., Christchurch, wrote offering a donation of sweets for sale at tho gala. Tho secretary ivas instructed to .write thankin? the donor. Mr. W. G. Morpeth was elected to tho Beach Committee, vice Mr. R. Reid, who, owing to illness, will bo unable to act. Mr. H. Jcnkinson was elected to the Entries Committee. It was reported that Mr. H. C. W. Blick wan making arrangements for the supply of fancy costumes for tho comic events. . , Mr. H. TV. Cooper was appointed fole judge. Other officers were ckctjd as follow:—Referee, Mr. T. Cathie have been appointed to arrange o fixture,for Saturday,' March 22, at Newtown Park. On that day it: is proposed to play, two 25-minute epells between tho Wellington representatives and tho next best team."
