MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) REVOLVER AND STICK. ■ STRANGE ASSAULT. TWO- NGAIO MEN QUARREL. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Sydney Charles Westbrook, a labourer, living in the suburb of Ngaio, was charged with having assaulted James Walls . Brown, a resident of the same suburb. Westbrook pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspcctir Shcehani stated that this was an unusual kind of assault. Blown was employed as a plumber by the Onslow Borough Council, and in the course of his'dutics he'reported: to the council ■ that; .there . was something unsatisfactory about a water-pipe connection 1 at Westbrook's house. This led to quarrels, and on Tuesday evening, when tho two met, Westbrook attacked Brown, knocking him down with a stick several. times. Mrs. Brown went to her husband's assistance, and Westbrook then drew a loaded revolver and pointed it at Brown. Westbrook was fined ',£3, with costs Bs., nnd was ordered to enter into a bond of .£3O to keep tho peace towards Brown for six months. DESERTED FROM THE NAVY. Sydney Thomas Plume was accused of having deserted H.M. Torch ,on December 11, 1912. Sub-Inspector Shcehon stated that Plume had given himself up as a deserter. . As there is no vessel of tho Navy in port, the Court ordered that Plume should be held at. tho Tcrrnco Gaol until lie can be handed ovfcr to the naval authorities. CLERK IN TROUBLE. James Mooro was charged witli having on October 18 fraudulently omitted to account for <£2 10s. (part of £7 3s. <ld. received from the Dresden Piano Company) to tho "New Zealand Tillies" Company, by : which he was employed. .Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for Moore. On the' application of Chief Detective v Brobsrg, Moore was remanded till Wednesday: next. ~ . ' Bail (.£SO) was granted. Detective'.-Brofcarg slated that he believed .that further charges would be made against Moore. . . THEFTS FROM HOUSES. F/ancis- Henry Gordon Guilford was chained having broken and entered •' the Francis E. Shannon,-jn
Tainar Street, Island Bay, on January 12 and stolen J!G 55., and, with haying broken and:entered the house of William Talbut, in Owen Street, Newtown, and stolen .£5 las. 2d., and eight penny stamps, belonging to Itoso Bryant and others. Guilford pleaded, guilty,;.and statements madei by him'to Detective Lewis were in effept confcs-sions. Finger-print evidence, alsoj was produced against him. Respecting, the theft at Talbut's, lie handed Detective Lewis £i 3s. Id., saying that it was the portion of the stolen property which lie had not spent. He produced this money and eight penny stamps from tho lining of his coat. Guilford was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. DANGEROUS GIRL. Ivy Myrtle Strong pleaded guilty to a charge of having, attempted to set St. Mary's Home, Karori, nfire. Tho accused was an inmate of tlie home at the time. She now stands committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The caso is fully reported elsewhere. , OTHER CASES, ' Susannah Ackerman, who was deemed to be a and a vagabond, was sentenced to three month?' imprisonment. Annie Gerry'was convicted . of insobriefy and ordered to pay,.£l 17s. 6d.,,the, amount of expenses incurred by the police in her behalf. , ■ .
