Mr. Justice Sim, 'Harcourt and Co., lnnd agents, proceeded against Elizabeth Green to recover ,£202, as balance of principal, and £40 as interest thereon. Mr. J. C. Peacock represented'the plaintiff, and Mr. P. J. O'Kegan the defendant. : Plaintiff stated that the money, was duo through." defendant guaranteeing a loan which was made to a third party/ Defendant's case was that she had no knowledge thnt the agreement which sho had entered into cast this responsibility upon her. 1 His Honour heard evidence and then decided in favour of plaintiff. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. ! CIVIL BUSINESS. (Before Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.) NATIVE AGENT'S CLAIM. Charles R. Parata, estate agent, Wellington, sued H. M. Hailes, settler, Kaikoura, for £~ for work done as a Nativo agent in respect to an endeavour to obtain confirmation 'of a lease iri the Native Land Court held at Kaikoura. ' After considering the evidence, _ Dr. M'Arthur gave judgment for tho plaintiff for the amount claimed with costs, <£2 Is. DENTIST'S BILL. ' 1 ■, The "Wellington Traders'' Agency (as assignees of Arthur Hoby and- Son, den-' tists) sued J. G. W. Dalrymple, accountant, for .£l3 17s. Gd. for dentistry work alleged to. have been done for defendant's child. ' ■ Mr. H. E. Anderson appeared for - the plaintiff, and Mr. A. Fair for the defendant. Some evidence was heard and case was then adjourned till Thursday. PROFESSIONAL SERVICES. . Seaton and.Sladden, surveyors and engineers, sued tho Maranui Land Syndicate for : £55 '195., as balance' of charges for ! professional services. * , Defendants counterclaimed for ,£lOl 2s. 3d., as extra expenditure caused through the alleged unskilful preparation of the plans made by the defendant. The error .was said to have' been, the omission of a level for a road; Mr. A. W. Blair appeared for the plaintiffs, and Mr. T. Young for tho defendants. 1 ' " ' * ' . Defendants admitted the claim, and his Worship heard part of the ..evidence respecting the counterclaim. \ At 5 o'clock the case was adjourned till to-day. t■ : ' POSSESSION OF PREMISES. Ellen Hand sued George Barkley Huxford and Olive • Ellen Huxford for possession of , certain premises, and claimed il 12s. as rent due. ■ ' His Worship gave judgment for ' the money claimed, and ordered that plaintiff should be given possession. • . CLERK IN TROUBLE. ~ Herbert Gregory Baily, who had been in the employ of the "New Zealand Times" Co., was accused of having fraudulently omitted to hand over ,£2O, which ho had received from the British Empire Trading Co. On the application of Chief-Detective Broberg, Baily was remanded till March 5. Bail (.£80) was allowed. , SHI P. DESERTION.. William Murphy was charged -with having deserted tho steamer Turakina. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced .to one m6nthV imprisonment. ■ Chief-Detective Broberg said that Murphy had joined tho Koonya (a coastal vessel). after leaving the Turakina, and the wages; on,'tho'Koonya were a, good deal higher, than on the ocean-going vessel. : \ '- INSOBRIETY. : For insobriety Jack-Linklatcr was fined 10s. •' ,
