The earthwaves would thus.quickly reach the surface and causo considerable damage, but, '.tho severity would be felt, only locally. • ' The tremor,reached hero at fifteen .minutes two seconds past 111 o'clock on the morning of the 22nd,'and the-maximum was reached at eighteen minutes nine seconds past 11. The largest, waves were only of 0.4 millimetres amplitude.
